The Terry Fox Run (30th Anniversary)

When Terry Fox recognized that he would not be able to complete his Marathon of Hope for cancer research in 1980, he bequeathed his mission to his fellow Canadians and The Terry Fox Run began. In keeping with the approach of its founder, the Run is a volunteer-led event, all-inclusive, non-competitive, with no pre-registration, entry fees or fundraising minimums. The Kidney Foundation of Canada's Give the Gift of Life Walk is an inspiring, community-based walk being held in 30 communities across Ontario in September, including Hamilton on Sunday, September 19th at Lakeland Centre on the Beach Strip. This annual event presents an opportunity for dialysis patients, organ transplant recipients, donor families, living donors and the general public, to celebrate advances in kidney health and organ donation. The Walk also helps support innovative research, provide education and support, promote access to high quality healthcare, and increase public awareness about kidney health and organ donation. In Canada, there are over 4,000 people waiting for organ transplants; 75% of those on the waiting list are waiting for a kidney. Harlequin Singers Audition Call

The Harlequin Singers, under newly appointed Music Director, Michael Pin, are holding auditions for singers in all sections, for the choir’s 2010-2011 season scheduled to start in early September, 2010. The SATB singers number 30 to 35 men and women. Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings at the Burlington Baptist Church, 2225 New St, Burlington, ON, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Singers, age 19 years and older, are invited to audition for SATB sections and should be able to read music, and be prepared to memorize music for concert presentations. Prospective singers will be invited to sit in on two rehearsal dates - Sept 7 and Sept 14, with auditions held on Sept 21 and Sept 28.
